Goldfilled. What is Goldfilled Jewelry?
Even though this term may sound familiar, I want to elaborate on why I choose Goldfilled vs Gold-plated or Vermeil.
First, durablity. Second, cost.
Goldfilled is not solid gold however it is a thick layer of real 14K gold bonded to a base core of brass. This allows you to wear it daily with the same amenities of solid gold without the cost. Its super durable! You can wear in water without fear of patina or ruining your piece(s).
Pools? Yes. Ocean? Yes. Shower? Yes. Lakes? Yes. Yes yes yes. Personally, I haven't taken off my set in 14 years. I shower and live an active daily life with them as part of me. Large part of my days are spent in the ocean. There have been times they've had some chemical exposure or saltwater with lime exposure that caused marring and I simply wiped them down on my wrist with a polishing cloth. Voila! Just like new.
Keep in mind that they're not solid gold. They cannot be melted or obtain solid gold value as it will have the cross contamination of the brass core.
